The Port of Brisbane is Queensland's largest general cargo port, and Australia's fastest growing container port. Managed by the Port of Brisbane Corporation, the main port complex is located at the mouth of the Brisbane River, and is the only purpose-built, capital-city, intermodal port complex in Australia. The port's limits extend geographically from Caloundra to the southern tip of Moreton Island. Our responsibility extends 16km up the Brisbane River to Breakfast Creek. Port facilities extend upriver for about 15km and include bulk commodity and general cargo wharves, a cruise terminal, and dockyard facility. Each year over 2,600 ships exchange about 26 million tonnes of cargo over the port's wharves. This activity currently generates a total annual contribution to the Queensland economy of $770 million. | |
