Brisbane Awards Presented by FKP Property Group

On 8 November 2008, the Brisbane Development Association (BDA) honoured Steve Wilson Chairman of South Bank Corporation and Executive Chairman of Wilson HTM Investment Group for his extraordinary contribution to Brisbane's urban fabric and economic and social well-being by awarding him the 2008 Brisbane Award presented by FKP Property Group.

BDA President Mark Doonar said that the Award acknowledged and celebrated the contributions of individuals and organisations in creating a better Brisbane.

"Steve Wilson's continuing involvement with South Bank serves to remind us that successful projects such as these are not possible without strong and decisive leadership. It took initiative and courage to abandon the previous master plan and to rethink South Bank. Steve and his Board persuaded the Government to start again. The result speaks for itself. South Bank has evolved to become a dynamic mixed use urban precinct and one of Australia's great public places.

"Steve has also been instrumental with other significant public projects including the highly successful Goodwill Bridge, preservation of Queensland's Maritime Museum, the completion of St John's Cathedral, and the activation of Brisbane River," said Mark.

"Steve is a tireless and persuasive advocate of strong urban design and community development practices in Brisbane city".

"It is a pleasure to recognise and celebrate Steve's contribution to the city of Brisbane especially in the areas of urban and community enhancement and river activation".

"The Brisbane Awards presented by FKP are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the expertise and dedication needed for improving Brisbane: recognising and rewarding the organisations and people who have contributed to the liveability and evolution of our city."

The awards were launched in 2007 to mark the Brisbane Development Association's 50th Anniversary. Tonight's event will be staged at the State Library of Queensland's Knowledge Walk.

The BDA is Brisbane's leading independent organisation that engages Government, industry and the community to make Brisbane's urban environment a better place to live and work.
