BRISBANE FUTURE ROUNDTABLE

PRESENTED BY BRISBANE AIRPORT CORPORATION

Brisbane's future was the subject of frank and open discussions of local visionary thinkers at the inaugural Brisbane Future Roundtable presented by Brisbane Airport Corporation in July 2007 and again at the second Roundtable event in February 2008.

Against the backdrop of a rapidly growing population, worsening traffic congestion, ageing infrastructure, urban sprawl and environmental pressure, the BDA staged the Roundtable to strategically re-think Brisbane's future and identify tangible opportunities to protect Brisbane's liveability.

At the first Roundtable, many valuable comments and arguments were presented, however the group concentrated on five important themes planning, transport, governance, disadvantaged / housing affordability and identity. These were further explored in February this year.

The BDA together with Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) invited 17 experts who represented a variety of disciplines and market sectors to participate in the facilitated Roundtable events. They included:

  • Griffith University Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian O'Connor
  • Smart State Council member and principal of Cox Rayner Architects Michael Rayner
  • Red Cross Community Services Manager Matthew Cox
  • Australian Environment International Pty Ltd Chairman Dr Hugh Lavery
  • South Bank Corporation Chairman and Executive Chair of Wilson HTM Steve Wilson
  • Department of State Development Science & Community Engagement Manager Dr Fiona Barbagallo
  • The Courier-Mail editor David Fagan
  • Queensland Motorways Chairman David Gray
  • Kelvin Grove Urban Precinct Project Director & ex CEO Bill Grant
  • FKP Property Group Executive General Manager (Queensland) Matthew Miller
  • Founding Director Ideas Festival Kylie Murphy
  • Brisbane Airport Corporation Managing Director & CEO Koen Rooijmans
  • BDA President and Immediate Past President Mark Doonar and David Thomas
  • Baulderstone Hornibrook Development Manager Michelle Lee
  • Honeycombes Property Group Director of Sales and Marketing Marina Vit
  • Dr Geoffrey Woolcock, Griffin University Urban Research Program

Following the inaugural Roundtable, the BDA has planned and hosted a series of seminar luncheons and other events which reflected the five themes listed above. These themes/issues will continue to influence and drive the BDA's future activities.
